March 3, 2025–Todd DeMint has been named executive director of the Winfield Area Habitat for Humanity, a position made possible by a two-year grant from the Habitat for Humanity International Capacity Building program.

Incorporated in1992, the local Habitat affiliate has just completed its 32nd home and will break ground for the 33rd home this spring. Individuals and families chosen as homeowners work alongside volunteers in building the homes, then pay for them through mortgages held by Habitat. Each homeowner must be able to meet qualifications that include training in budget management.

The grant will make possible the coordination of day-to-day operations of Winfield’s Habitat program, which has been completely volunteer-run in the past. No donor funds will be used for this admin

istrative position; all local fundraising will continue to support materials and vital professional functions. Up to this point Habitat has had no paid staff.

Pat Hedrick, current board president, says DeMint will be able to smooth coordination of the construction of the homes, as well as concentrating on expanding fundraising efforts and communication with volunteers and the public.

“Todd has been a vital part of the local Habitat group for a decade, both at the local and state level,” Hedrick says. “In several terms as president of the board he gained a big-picture view of how Habitat works, from the volunteers on the ground to the pounding of the nails to the coordination with Habitat beyond Winfield. He has proven his passion for the mission of Habitat as well his proficiency in the skills an executive director will need.”

Hedrick adds that DeMint’s work will make it possible for the board to focus more on strategic matters, such as building partnerships within the community, and identifying and obtaining building sites.

DeMint is a Southwestern College graduate who earned a bachelor’s degree with an emphasis in accounting. He most recently has been an accounting analyst for the City of Winfield. In addition to his Habitat involvement, his extensive community activities include involvement with the arts and with the Cowley County House of Hope, UMC Cowley Network Lay Leader, the American Red Cross (55+ gallon donor), and the American Cancer Society.
